The Silver Lining

Holiday Season that was 2005

January 12, 2006

Probably my happiest Christmas ever as it was in the advent of regularization as a Copyeditor at SPi, the recent move-in to a new house, and the first taste of having Bruno and driving him in Manila. Along with the jumpstart, the picturesque tree set up by Mom, the wreath on my door, and the Christmas tree at Gateway Mall were not amiss. Natalie Cole’s “Grown up Christmas List” was deemed my theme music for this season.

The 23rd of December was my first experience of working for two shifts just to make it to my trip home to the province for the Noche Buena feast. Devoid of sleep and stressed out with the rush, I still enjoyed that trip and felt, for the first time, some REAL inner peace on my way home. Arrival was barely 30 minutes to Christmas eve, and there was two whole days to rest.

Upon coming back to Manila on the 27th, preparations for the New Year were on, as Hatsu, still a graduating BS Information Management student, was to follow for a 1-week vacation in my home. Unfortunately, I said hello to 2006 in the office once again, as I was trapped and I did not want to expose myself to all those blasting. I slept in the office and came home 5 a.m. Jo and Odie came to fetch me, as Bruno was safe-kept to avoid the fireworks in the streets of Don Galo.

The first of January was the day to fetch Hatsu at the Dapitan bus terminal. Hatsu’s stay was very memorable, hand in hand with the mallings, the purchase of my Nokia 6630 celphone, and the pigouts. When she was to go back home, I sent her off with a promise that right after her graduation, she will stay with me and work in Manila.

My BRUNO

December 2, 2005

My bRuNO
(my choice of color)

Maybe he might have been advertised this way.

Maybe his poster looked like this.

And maybe, in the 1989 launch, he was this fresh.

Ahhay. My same old
bRuNO. My 1989 Mitsubishi Lancer EL. He’s finally here with me in Manila. Still OK, though he needs some painting job. I love him and I don’t want to part with him. He has never failed me and has saved me from lots and lots of trouble. Even if I’d have the money to buy a new car, bRuNO will still stay.

At the time bRuNO was launched I was in 6th grade and I was soooo crazy about this car. In 1999, I finally acquired a second hand as a college graduation gift from Mom. However, just wondering, how did his posters look like in 1989? How would he have looked like, so fresh and untainted? How was he advertised?

I do intend to restore bRuNO come the time I’ll have the money. I owe him a full restoration. He’s my first car, and I’ll keep my promise to him.
